This is an example of a mom’s success story for getting her son some counseling at the Sacramento Life Improvement Center.
“My son was withdrawing. The once bright, goofy, incredibly kind and generous kid (with an amazing sense of humor!) was hiding behind a 20” screen in a dark bedroom—coming out for meals and an occasional tv show. On a good day he’d emerge for a quick conversation but his sunken demeanor and dull eyes showed the effort this took. Never rude, never ‘stirring the pot’ he moved through life obediently, letting it be.
My 6’0 tall, 17 year-old son was as small as I’d ever seen him.
I decided to introduce him to my friends at the Sacramento Life Improvement Center, River Park Mission.
Fast forward…………………. He is now at the tail end of his counseling.
The most basic observation I can make is that he is present—and I’ve really missed him. I can tell he has undergone a tremendous amount of unburdening and I am beyond thankful for that. Honestly, last night I had to hold back my own emotion as he sat in the kitchen with me chatting mindlessly about his friends, school, future ideas, and whatever else came up (and when I say ‘mindlessly’ I mean it in the best way!)
The space around him is changing. He is brighter and……. just less……………..heavy. Even his walking pace is faster!
He really deserves this.
I’m very thankful.” The Mom
